Award: Actonians Field of Dreams Award
Winner: John Hambly Location: Surrey
John, an MS sufferer, established the Samson Centre project in 2003 aimed at creating a dedicated facility for the treatment of MS. By 2005, with the help of teammates at Actonians RFC and future partners, the Wey Kayak Club, the first phase was constructed. The Centre now treats 170 people per week and annually provides over 3,500 physiotherapy sessions, 4,000 exercise classes, 2,500 gym sessions and 2,500 oxygen therapy treatments as well as running an adaptive kayaking programme.
About the Charity
The Centre provides practical and emotional support for people living with multiple sclerosis. Exercise and fitness are essential to keep muscles moving and maintain a level of mobility. Physiotherapists and gym instructors create bespoke treatment and exercise programmes which are combined with our baric oxygen facilities.
