Shotley & Benfieldside Tennis Club has an excellent history in engaging the local community in innovative projects which use Tennis as a means of improving both health and social outcomes. SBTC developed a highly impactful community programme which targets young people with disabilities living in deprived areas of County Durham. Weekly sessions had the following impact throughout 2019: 56 (disabled) participants, 85% improved emotional wellbeing, 91% improved physical health, 88% improved self-esteem, 100% improved Tennis skills.
About the Charity
Since 2009 SportWorks has designed and delivered award-winning projects which change lives across the UK. Our programmes utilise the ‘power of sport’ to tackle a range of societal issues including crime, anti-social behaviour, mental/physical health and social mobility. By 2022 over 12,000 disadvantaged people will access our programmes every year.
